Scariest Moments in Chile

The trip to Chile, while easily a positive experience overall, was not without its scarier moments. In this video, we dive into the top scariest moments from our trip to Chile. While the full story behind some of these events and images may never be uncovered, these experiences definitely stuck with us.

The airport in Santiago was definitely the most frightening experience of the whole trip. Getting through the airport turned out to be unexpectedly stressful—confusing layouts, language barriers, and clashing instructions from airport staff made it hard to know where to go. The fear of missing our flight and being completely lost in a foreign country definitely added to the anxiety. Although the most terrifying moment for me in the airport was the brief ten minutes when me and Garrett thought we were going to end up flying to Easter Island on our own.

Some honorable mentions of scary moment include the broken glass and the swerving uber driver. On our way back from the winery Kate, Rachel, Garrett, Anna, and I jammed into an uber for the twenty minute drive back to the hotel. We could not figure out how to get the seatbelt for the middle seat (where Anna was sitting to work). After a few minutes of fumbling, we gave up and decided to risk it. Not long after, the driver abruptly swerved to avoid someone in a crosswalk, jerking the whole car to one side. Anna slammed into Garrett, and the rest of us grabbed at whatever we could to steady ourselves. We quickly decided that maybe getting Anna buckled was worth revisiting and eventually we figured it out.

The broken glass, refers to just after returning from the trip. At home I opened my suitcase to find that the souvenir glass I’d picked out for my older brother had shattered in transit, covering my clothes in broken glass. It some ways it is more of a tragedy than a horror story, but I was fairly agitated after the fact that I might find some unexpected shards of glass.
