With the advent of Tik Tok and Youtube, video might be the most common form of media now consumed, with people watching dozens of videos every day. With that in mind it was interesting to unpack the components that go into video making.
One of the most significant things I learned was understanding how different camera shots and angles contribute to storytelling. For instance, the use of continuity editing ensures a seamless flow of scenes, maintaining the logical progression of the narrative and keeping the audience engaged.
Engaging in practical assignments like Reading Movies and Look, Listen, Analyze allowed me to apply these concepts by dissecting scenes and understanding the deliberate choices behind each shot. Creating my own videos such as the “Top Five Moai” and “Where do you want to go?” was rewarding.
Reflecting on this experience, I’ve gained a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship behind visual storytelling. It’s difficult and time consuming but I think its a skill I will try to use in the future.
